I like the concept. Ones on achieving this type of lighting effect, I would suggest using a point light with decay. Now remember when you use decay you are going to need to bring the intensity up alot. For instance instead of 1 bring it up to 25 and see what that gives you. the intensity with be different for everyone because of the different scales in everyones' scenes.
